Types of Massage Chair Frames
There are 3 styles of massage chair frames. We will explain them in detail below.
Fixed Frames
Fixed frame chairs were the very first massage chairs manufactured. These chairs are built around a rectangular steel frame in the back of the chair where massage rollers, massage balls, or fixed-position heads are mounted. They are not found commonly anymore if you do find one, beware because they are very outdated.
S-Track Frames
S-Track massage chairs are the most commonly seen on the market today and are the current industry standard. They have a steel frame that’s bent in an S-Shape that allows the rollers to travel up and down the track mimicking the shape of the human spinal curve. This allows the rollers to follow your spine more accurately than if the track was straight. S-track chairs provide a high-quality massage experience that runs from the back of the head, neck, and shoulders all the way down to the tailbone. The track stops there and the rollers travel back up to the top of the track.
This type of massage chairs are good for those that enjoy a good stretch as most S track chairs provide a better stretch because of the ability to recline back and lengthen the spine. The S Track massage chairs can be more precise in the motion of the rollers, especially if they have 3D or 4D massage capabilities.

L- Track Frames
L- Track frames are the most recent frame innovation and gets its name from its overall shape of an L. This type of massage chair provides more coverage using the roller for a massage from the back of the head, neck, and shoulders all the way under the seat to the glutes.
Those that experience lower back or sciatic pain, this is especially helpful. The chair is able to stretch the muscles from the spine to the hips and lower extremities. The track continues past the small of your back, curving under the seat to allow the rollers to massage your glutes and the backs of your thighs. These massage chairs often come with leg massage ports, extending the massage experience down to your calves and to your feet, giving you a full body massage experience.
