Choosing the Right TEMPUR-Pedic Mattress

Tempur-Pedic Pro Performance Sheets

Although there is no mattress that is perfect for everyone, TEMPUR-Pedic offers a mattress option for every type of sleeper. Your body shape, your sleep position, how long you spend in bed, and your general comfort preferences all come into play when selecting the right mattress.

Understanding TEMPUR-Pedic Mattresses

TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses are designed to evenly absorb the weight of your body, dramatically reducing motion transfer between your partner and your side of the bed. They also regulate body temperature to give you the most comfortable sleep possible.

History of TEMPUR-Pedic

image of nasa spaceship lifting off In the 1960s, NASA contracted an aeronautical engineer and a scientist to create an open-cell material to absorb the G-force for astronauts traveling into space. They first referred to this open-cell material as slow springback foam. It would shape to whatever was pressing against it and then slowly spring back to its original shape once the pressure was removed. The name later changed to temper foam. In the early 1980s, NASA marked the formula for temper foam as public domain, and a number of companies started working with it to develop its commercial use.

TEMPUR-Pedic’s founders were eager to improve the original application. Their scientists rigorously tested and enhanced the foam to increase its adaptability, heat dissipation and durability. After close to 10 years of perfecting the temper material for consumer use, specifically for sleepers, the TEMPUR-Pedic Swedish Mattress was introduced to the world in 1991.

Within three years, 50,000 TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses were sold in Sweden, a country with a relatively small population. Shortly after the introduction of this Swedish mattress, TEMPUR-Pedic Inc. was created in North America. By the end of 1995, TEMPUR-Pedic Inc. was a $14 million company.

All TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses are made from materials sourced and made in the U.S. They have two main manufacturing facilities: one located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the other in Duffield, Virginia. Today TEMPUR-Pedic’s scientists continue to develop new technology to help them provide the best luxury mattresses on the market.

TEMPUR-Pedic Cooling Technology

Tempur-pedic AdaptCooling Topper Styled Room Many memory foam mattresses are known for trapping in heat as you sleep. The TEMPUR Cool-to-Touch cover and the TEMPUR Cool-to-Touch SmartClimate system were designed for body temperature regulation in the TEMPUR-Adapt series.

TEMPUR-Pedic has now gone one step further and designed the TEMPUR-Breeze mattress in a thermal laboratory. This new matttress helps manage the climate between your body, mattress and bedding for a cooler, deeper sleep all night long. The TEMPUR-CM+ Climate Management material was developed to promote maximum airflow and mattress breathability. The material dissipates heat and delivers cooling comfort all night. A cooler sleep environment helps your body temperature drop and remain at the ideal temperature needed to fall asleep faster and longer.

TEMPUR-Pedic Durability

Even though all TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses come with a 10-year warranty, they tend to last closer to 15 years.

Mattress Budget

Although everyone wants to sleep on a luxurious mattress, we don’t always want to pay for a high-quality mattress when the time comes to actually purchase. While it’s important to purchase within your budget, you don’t want to ignore our body’s wants and needs. Spending the money upfront on a high-quality mattress will likely save you money and headaches (and bodyaches) in the future.

TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses are built with high-quality, long-lasting materials that perfectly conform to your body as you sleep. They are priced accordingly.

TEMPUR-Pedic Mattress Features

Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Soft Pro Breeze Medium mattress The TEMPUR-Adapt mattress is available in a medium all-foam or a medium hybrid version. Each TEMPUR-Adapt mattress features a unique layer of TEMPUR-ES comfort material for a softer feel. It works in combination with an original TEMPUR-support layer in the all-foam model and in the hybrid version, a layer of more than 10,000 spring coils.

The TEMPUR-ProAdapt mattress is available in a soft, medium or firm mattress and has 20% more TEMPUR material in its comfort layer and support layer than the TEMPUR-Adapt series.

The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt mattress is available in a soft or firm and has 20% more TEMPUR material in its comfort layer and support layer than the TEMPUR-Adapt series.

Pressure Relief

Pressure points are the parts of our body that contact the mattress more than other areas. In order to eliminate pain on your pressure points, your weight needs to be evenly distributed across the mattress surface.

TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses do just that. They also cradle your back and hug your spine. This promotes spinal alignment and alleviates pain you may feel in your body’s pressure points.

Motion Transfer

In the early 2000s, TEMPUR-Pedic’s wine glass test commercial was an effective way to show how the original TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses were better at offering motion cancellation than a traditional innerspring mattress. This test is still remembered and demonstrated today.

This marketing tactic proved to be a genius move to get a simple point across: TEMPUR-Pedic is superior at motion transfer isolation.

The firm TEMPUR-Pedic mattress styles tend to provide stronger edge support than the soft styles. The TEMPUR-Adapt hybrid mattress and the TEMPUR-Pedic ProBreeze hybrid mattress have more surface area and the best edge support due to their coil support core.

TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses are designed with cutting-edge cooling materials inside and outside of their mattresses. Their cooling features include phase-change technology in the top, inside layer and a cool-to-the-touch outer cover on the outside of each mattress.

The combination creates a cooler sleeping environment and gives you the uninterrupted, restorative sleep you need.

If sleeping hot is a recurring issue for you, check out the TEMPUR-Breeze collection for an especially cool night of sleep each and every night.

A cooler sleep environment helps your body temperature drop to the ideal climate needed to fall asleep faster and longer. TEMPUR designed their new TEMPUR-Breeze mattress collection in a thermal laboratory to help manage the climate between your body, your mattress and your covers for a cooler, deeper sleep all night long.

The TEMPUR-ProBreeze is available in a medium or medium hybrid. It feels three degrees cooler throughout the night compared to the Adapt collection.

The TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze is available in a soft or firm comfort level. It feels up to eight degrees cooler throughout the night compared to the Adapt collection.
